The only difference, per Remington, is their magnum primers have a harder cup to prevent possible blow-outs due to increased magnum pressures. I have recently discovered that in the case of Remington small pistol primers the only difference in the regular (Remington size 1 1/2) and what they sell for small pistol magnums (Remington size 5 1/2) has the same amount and composition of priming compound. I have very recently come to question that, at least in some cases. I have always been told that magnum primers are hotter, hence they being magnums.
